HOW TO COMPILE A CD READY TO MAKE YOUR CALENDAR

(1) Create a New Folder on your Desktop.

Move your mouse pointer to an open space on your Desktop and right click on the mouse. Go to New then Folder, left click. The words New Folder will then be highlighted - type over with your name and postcode eg SMITH AB1 2CD, then click on an open space on your Desktop. If New Folder is not highlighted, place pointer on the folder icon and right click. Go to Rename and left click. New Folder will then be highlighted as above.

(2) Select the images you want to use for your calendar.

Find your library of pictures wherever it's stored on your hard disk eg My Pictures within your My Documents folder. Select the first image you want, place the pointer on the icon or the filename, right click, then Copy left click. Place pointer on Desktop Folder created in (1) above, right click then Paste. When you have repeated this exercise for the other 12 images you need, your Desktop Folder can be opened (by pointing to the icon and left double-clicking) ready for (3) below.

(3) Check your images are correctly labelled Cover, January, February etc.

With your Desktop Folder open from (2) above, go to Menu Bar at the top of your screen, left click View and select Thumbnails. All 13 images should then appear as "mini" versions. Place pointer on the file name of the image you wish to use as the Cover of your calendar, and right click. Go to Rename, then overtype the existing file name with Cover.jpg

When the Confirm File Name box appears, click Yes, or press Return. Repeat this process for the other 12 images which will become January.jpg, February.jpg, March.jpg etc.

(4) Check all the images are .jpg files.

With your Desktop Folder open, go to the Menu Bar, left click View, and select Details. Your 13 files will then appear in a list under Name/Size/Type/Modified. Check the description of each file under the heading Type is "JPEG Image".

If an image is not already a JPEG, open it by left double-clicking on the file name. Go to File on the Menu Bar, then Save As. The "Save Picture" screen appears, then (a) change "Save In" box to your calendar's Desktop Folder eg SMITH AB1 2CD. Next (b) type "File Name" the same as it is eg January. Finally (c) change "Save as Type" to JPEG(*.jpg), and click Save. Close picture by clicking on the "X" in the top right hand corner of your screen. Repeat the process for all the other images that are not already JPEGs.

If the program you use to look at your pictures (such as Microsoft Paint) does not give the option of resaving as a JPEG, right click the file name, then Open with/Choose Program/Imaging, then File/Save As and select JPEG. Then follow the procedure as above. If your Desktop Folder still contains the original file eg a bitmap (.bmp), then delete it.

When finished, check the list of files to ensure all 13 are now resaved as JPEGs. Close folder by clicking on the "X" in the top right hand corner of your screen.

(5) Burn the CD.

Go back to your calendar folder on the Desktop, left double-click to open, go to View on the Menu Bar and change to Thumbnails. This step is a final check to ensure all 13 images are correctly labelled with the right months. Go to File/Save then close the Folder.

Now burn your CD!! When complete, remove it from the drive, reinsert it, open it and check everything has copied properly onto the CD. The Desktop Folder can now be deleted. Your CD will be returned with your calendar.
